We have scouting frigates, bomber frigates, recon cruisers and black ops battleships.
We need Destroyer and Battlecruiser hull cloaker types.
Destroyer:
The Covert Destroyer has one specific job: Seek and Engage cloaked vessels.
To this end, the Covert Destroyer is fitted with a highly sophisticated scanner and sensor arrays designed to pick up the minute space-time distortions generated by a cloaked vessel as well as having a limited stealth capability.
In Combat, the covert destroyer uses a modified version of the bombs deployed by stealth bomber craft: Space Charges.
-Can only use prototype cloaking device. Ship bonus removes 50% of sensor penalties @ cloaking 5 and removes 30% speed penalty when cloaked @ covert ops 5.
-Space Charges: Function like bombs but with the damage and radius of a medium smartbomb. 3k m/s speed and a 5km radius explosion, 100 damage.
-Sensor suite of the Covert Destroyer comes in the way of a highly sensitive Ship Scanner scan limited to 50km. Like a regular ship scan, any cloaking ships detected cannot be 'warp to' or 'approach', however the player's client will display a series of distortions in an area 10km 'bubble' of where the sensor contact was detected (center marked by a beacon). Like the sparkly effects you sometimes see in deadspace.
The destroyer player, cloaked, can perform these scans. It will be the destroyer pilot's decision if he wants to close in and try to expose the cloaked hostile by flying into the area and hoping to fly inside 2km of the cloaked hostile... or lob a couple of space charges at the area and hope he gets a hit. They do have to uncloak and point their ships to fire the space charge though.
With only 4 higslots, 2 of which are used by cloak and the space charge launcher (aka, a bomb launcher), these destroyers have rather light weaponry but their effect to disrupt the operation of other stealth vessels is vital.
Battlecruiser Raider:
The Raider-class battlecruisers have one purpose: Act as motherships to frigate and destroyer sized ships.
To this end, the Raider battlecruisers retain their command module bonuses, lose all weapon and tank related bonuses but in return gain:
-Same ability to use Prototype cloak as the Covert Destroyer (along with the same penalty reductions). -shield, hull and armor remote repair bonus on amount repaired and cap consumption (2% bonus per battlecruiser level) -Similar Jump portal capability that Black Ops battleships have. HOWEVER, the Raider battlecruisers can only open a jump portal to go into an adjacent system and they can only pass through frigate and destroyer sized ships.
These two ships fulfill two roles we need in the game: An Anti-stealther-stealther ship and a ship that can bring the support elements of a fleet into hostile space and attack or harrass the hostile fleet that has parked itself in sniping range of the gate.
Cost of the Destroyer should be about 15 mill, cost of the Raider battlecruiser should be the same as a T1 battleship.. about 60~70 mill.
Of course id also like a super-sized battlecruiser stealth-bomber type.. firing 6 torpedoes and up to 3 bombs..but i can only dream ;) |
